Hands-on with SuperTooth Disco2

Image

Move over Jambox, there’s a new portable audio contender entering the market. The Disco2, shown off at this week’s CTIA 2012, is SuperTooth’s smaller, more compact sequel to its O.G. 28 watt powerhouse of the same name and a direct threat to the niche market occupied by Jawbone. Housed in a colorful hourglass-shaped design that should please the style-minded, this rechargeable speaker connects over Bluetooth to your device of choice, outputting 16 watts of 360 degree sound through two speakers and a subwoofer. It’s set to hit the market mid-month priced at $99, but for consumers that want a bit more of an aural punch, an additional unit can actually be paired up to deliver a fuller stereo effect. Judging from its powerful performance on the noisy showroom floor, however, you’d probably be fine with just the one. Click on below to take a better look at the company’s curvy offering.

VAIO T13 Ultrabook could be coming with Ivy Bridge, according to Sony’s German site

VAIO T13 Ultrabook could be coming with Ivy Bridge, according to Sony's German site

If Sony’s German site is to be believed, then it’s safe to say the outfit’s had a change of heart recently. According to a revealing spec sheet on the website, there’s now a T13 Ultrabook model with one of Intel’s latest chips on board. Just last week, Sony announced the Euro-bound T13 would be sporting a last-gen Core i3-2367M CPU, but the recent finding shows an i5-3317U variant (you know, the one on Sammy’s Series 9) could be in the works. Still, it’s unknown whether this Ivy Bridge-packing VAIO would replace its Sandy Bridge sibling or if it’s just going to be a complete different offering. We’ll have to wait and see.

Samsung Game Hub, Video Hub hands-on (video)

Image

Sad that Samsung’s rumored S-Cloud didn’t appear on the scene? Well the arrival of the company’s new Video, Game and Music hubs might heal the wounds. Rather than a unified service, the Galaxy S III will have access to three separate stores that will offer an alternative to Google Play. We spent a few minutes having a play, and you can see what it’s like after the break.

Karla Vanessa Perez: Pregnant With NINE Kids!

Karla Vanessa Perez, a Mexican woman already nicknamed NuevaMom by TMZ and other celebrity gossip sites, is reportedly pregnant with nine kids! NINE!

That puts Octomom to shame! Or at least beats her by one embryo.

Perez is a month away from giving birth to six girls and three boys. Like Nadya Suleman, fertility treatments led to her record-breaking multiple pregnancy.

OctoMex

This is not Perez. It’s Octomom photoshopped in front of a Mexican flag.

Perez confirmed the news to Mexico’s Notimex news agency, saying, “It’s very early to think of names for the babies … first I hope that everything goes well.”

We hope so too … during the pregnancy and afterward. In Octomom’s case, it has not, judging by the fact that she’s now on welfare and may lose her kids.

No word yet if NuevaMom is also unmarried, with six offspring already, financially insolvent to the point where her kids have to poop outside, and/or insane.

Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse Top Fans’ Hologram Wish-Lists

Departed artists like Whitney Houston, Queen’s Freddie Mercury and John Lennon also get mentions from fans in Times Square.

NEW YORK — After the Tupac hologram performance at Coachella made such a huge splash, the team behind the projection system floated the possibility this week of an Elvis hologram to perform with Justin Bieber. Even ’90s girl group TLC is rumored to be considering a virtual version of the late Left Eye on their upcoming tour.

With all that talk, MTV News hit Times Square to ask fans which departed artists they would most like to see perform in hologram form. While some of those interviewed wanted to see other rappers like the Notorious B.I.G. or Nate Dogg, one fan thought Whitney Houston should get the honors.

“I love her, I grew up singing her [songs], just walking around the house when I was seven or eight,” Shayana of Houston said.

Brits Amy Winehouse and John Lennon of the Beatles were also popular picks, and a few rock fans mentioned Queen’s flamboyant frontman. “It would have to be Freddie Mercury because Queen were one of the all-time greatest bands and he was a showman,” said a fan named Rob.

Blane Mader would like to see a hologram of another great showman, Michael Jackson.

“It’s a really cliché answer, but in my time I’ve never seen him and it would just be something awesome to watch,” Mader said of the King of Pop.

Members of the Jackson 5 recently announced that they would love to have a virtual Michael on their upcoming Unity Tour. “Wouldn’t that be wonderful? As a matter of fact, we had that idea two years ago for Michael’s Cirque du Soleil show,” Michael’s brother Jackie Jackson told E! News.

Star Castle finally finds a home on the Atari 2600, gets a redesigned cartridge

Image

Halo may have made its way to the Atari 2600, but wouldn’t porting a retro game to this ’70s-era console be more appropriate? MAKE Magazine has the skinny on former Atari dev Scott Williamson’s port of the Cinematronics shooter Star Castle. Though Atari execs decided the title was too complicated to bring over in the ’80s, Williamson took it upon himself to make that transition possible. The result of some serious coding is 8K of ROM and 128 bytes of RAM’s worth of good ol’ space war. But he didn’t stop there — he redesigned the cartridge with a transparent casing and LEDs that flash during gameplay. Click through to the source link for the full step-by-step.

Alexandre Herchcovitch dresses up HP Pavilion dm1 with golden doilies, higher sticker price

Alexandre Herchovitch dresses up HP Pavilion dm1 with golden doilies, higher sticker price

Ask the most fashionable folks you know, looking good isn’t cheap — no surprise then, that playing dress up has put a premium on the HP Pavilion dm1′s price tag. Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch has dolled up the ultraportable laptop with a lacy gold topcoat, applying the signature flair to the machine’s keyboard, palm rest and lid. The cost of style? About $1800, according to Notebook Italia, which buys you 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, a 500GB hard drive and 1.65GHz dual-core AMD E-450 brain. A pretty penny, considering the notebook’s Core i3 model can be had for a mere $600. Sure, Herchcovitch takes the dm1 out of our holiday gift guide’s “on the cheap” section, but where else are you going to get a designer doily kicks?
